We were asked to design a bus shelter
concept which could be implemented for various locations in and
around the
City of Kingston. Our research concluded that there was a need for
two sizes of Bus Shelter-large for popular routes and small for
peripheral locations. Our concept utilizes advanced fabrication
methods of reinforced fiberglass (similar to that used for boat
building) to produce shelters which are clean, durable, and suggest
an efficient contemporary image for the bus system.
Both versions are based on the same modular components and include
a transparent windscreen panel in the shape of a parallelogram,
and a cantilevered canopy which extends in the direction of the
bus’s arrival. The larger version features an integral trash
receptacle and more seating possibilities. This pair of eye-catching
bus shelter prototypes strives to enhance and dignify the waiting
experience while contributing a high-profile statement to both the
urban and peripheral environs.
