Modern House
Boiceville, NY
New Construction

This 4500 square foot house was designed to take full advantage of its secluded location adjacent to NYC’s Ashokan Reservoir and the Catskill Mountains. The clients, both successful business people had the goal to create an idealized refuge free from the more common representations of Home. The main living level is entered via a bridge from behind which serves to create a highly charged and dramatic entry sequence as the mountains come into view. Also located on the Main level are the Master Suite, a long inset terrace and an attached apartment for the parents separated/connected via the Open Room.

This project sculpturally juxtaposes a three-dimensional matrix of simple wood-clad forms perched atop a concrete plinth within its rugged mountain setting. The effect is striking and allows for multiple ways in which to appreciate the stunning natural setting. Full height glazed walls of the Main House along with the attached Tower seem to imbue the Space itself with a desire for the View. At the lower level are located the garage, guest rooms, an office and an exercise room. Directly outside the office a long reflecting pool emerges from the slope and visually connects one to the distant water body of the Reservoir beyond.
