Occupying an entire city block in
a historic downtown area, this new 22,000 square foot mixed-use
building contains ground floor retail, with medical office suites
above and an underground parking facility below. The client operates
a successful pharmacy business which will be located in the ground
floor retail space. k.a provided programming, site planning, architectural
design and construction documentation for the project. We also assisted
the client in obtaining approval with local zoning codes and entitlements
on this exceptionally difficult and constrained site.
Located at a crucial urban intersection diagonally opposite the
Beaux-Arts County Courthouse, the building’s massing helps reinforce the
reading of the original 19th century 16-square city grid. Careful
design of the building’s exterior envelope, and material
selections of red brick and cast stone help to evoke the traditional
masonry
buildings found in the area. As a catalyst for downtown economic
re-vitalization the exterior parking deck will play host to weekend
events such as
antique car shows, art exhibits, etc.
